Alona, created by Axel Leyer of FontStruct, is a free blackletter font with a dense, sharply cut silhouette. Broad upright strokes meet angular shoulders and pointed joins, giving the letters the sturdy construction of medieval manuscript lettering. The forms are compact and emphatic.
Medieval history and dark fantasy are the clearest subjects for this lettering, especially in game graphics and book covers. Its carved look also suits heraldic merchandise and event posters built around old-world themes. Shields, swords, illuminated borders, and architectural ornament can echo the repeated points and hard angles, making the type part of the illustration itself.
