Kogaion SC FR v3.9 フォント

Kogaion SC FR v3.9 by Florin Florea is a free Celtic Gothic display font with tall, sharply cut letters, pronounced thick-thin strokes, and an imposing silhouette. Pointed inner shapes, wedge serifs, and arched forms recall carved medieval ornament.

Its angular outlines echo knotwork and heraldic illustration, linking naturally with fantasy game art, folk festival posters, historical publishing, and themed merchandise. Book covers are its strongest setting, especially when the lettering needs to suggest an old legend or illuminated manuscript.

This typeface, called “Arhaic Romanesc,” is based on the Cyrillic alphabet used in Romania from around 1500 to 1860 for Church Slavonic and Romanian texts.

Kogaion was started in 2009.

It is still a work in progress. The typeface is a revival based on an old book cover from around 1930, which contained only 10 letters for its title. Sixteen additional letters were created in the same style. Numbers and Romanian diacritics were also added.
