LMRoman10 by B. Jackowski and J. M. Nowacki of the TeX user community is a free high-contrast serif with a formal, bookish bearing. Its tall upright letters combine slender hairlines with broad curved strokes and crisp wedge-like serifs. The overall drawing is poised and traditional, with restrained decorative detail.
Literary publishers could use it for book covers and journals. Academic magazines and museum programs also suit its measured drawing, especially when addressing scholars and readers drawn to classical typography and historical subjects.
