Salter

Salter, by D. Rakowski and Columbia University, is a free 3D display font with the blunt charm of retro comic-book lettering. The caps are heavy and square-shouldered, then pushed into deep extrusions with diagonal striping that gives the alphabet a hand-drawn shadowbox feel rather than a slick digital one.

That makes it a natural pick for poster headlines, arcade-style logos, title cards, zine covers, and big chapter openers where the letters can do some of the illustration work. As a free font, Salter is especially at home in short, punchy settings because the chunky fronts and hatched sides create their own built-in depth.
