Virile Open

Virile Open, by Harold Lohner, is a free outlined old-school display font with a hand-drawn, slightly gawky swagger. The letters feel tall, uneven, and loosely cut, with chunky outlines, pinched joins, and a scruffy vintage mood that leans more yearbook doodle than polished signpainting.

It works well for poster titles, zine covers, comic-style headings, retro flyers, and label art where a free font can bring in that offbeat schoolbook energy. Because the outlines are such a big part of the look, the font is most at home in short headlines, title cards, and drop-cap moments where the quirky silhouette has room to show.
